Syracuse
This is an interactive application that refers to the siege of Syracuse by the Romans during the 2nd Punic War, in the end of the 3rd century BC, as well as to the defining role of Archimedes, as the inventor of a series of war machines that were used for the defense of the city.
We aim to create an intense personal experience of the virtual world to the users. The player, as well as his opponent, experiences the action “in first place”, as if he was one of the important historical figures and interact with his contemporaries. In this framework, the significant choice was the role of Archimedes, a real and well known historical figure, as the narrator and fellow traveler in the virtual experience. Archimedes becomes a friend for the children, a wise and funny companion, who with care and humor accompanies the “fighting” young player, continuously teaching him, but without the latter realizing it.
